Soccer championship

Students at 黑料不打烊, New England, got to show off their soccer skills last Thursday as they closed out the season with the championship game.

Captained by Mark Goyette (鈥26) and Alexei Forrester (鈥26), the two squads were ready for an epic showdown. Spectators gathered around the athletics field to cheer on their favorite team or just enjoy the game. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 really know who I鈥檓 cheering for,鈥 laughed Gianna Kelly (鈥27). 鈥淚鈥檓 just here for the action.鈥

The ball soared across the field, starkly black and white against the mountains, covered in fall foliage. Goalies Enzo Giovinazzi (鈥26) and Brendan Carney (鈥28) skillfully kept it out of their teams鈥 respective goals, often diving to guard their nets. The first half of the game went scoreless, but just after the referee blew the starting whistle for the second half, Justin Hoeing (鈥28) sent the ball flying into the goal of Team Goyette, which responded in turn by scoring two goals in quick succession.

In the last quarter, Team Forrester tied the score at 2-2, making it look as if the championship would end in a draw. To everyone鈥檚 surprise, though, with two seconds left in the game, Jamie Kelly (鈥27) scored a third goal for Team Goyette, defeating Team Forrester 3-2. Cheers erupted from the audience along with wild applause.

鈥淚 saw the shot, so I took it,鈥 Jamie said. 鈥淪ometimes you just have to take a chance. And luckily for my team, it worked out!鈥
